From an article in Christianity Today Why Help The Poor Loving others - giving money, time, praying for them, etc., is as much for my own "spiritual" well being, as it is for the fulfillment of the other person's need. Interaction with other people, in His name, will pull in the strength and wisdom from God.

75 Year-old widow in need
THIS NEED IS MET. This client was called in by her daughter. She is on Social Security Disability. She needs assistance with OG&E $503.58; she is in default on a payment arrangement. Set for cut off extended until 10/22/07. She has a list of numbers but has not made contact with anyone yet. She attends Christian Life – they are unable to help. She had brain surgery for a cancerous tumor - also had half her right lung was removed three weeks ago. She is doing pretty good. Our associated prayed for her healing and her mother's health, for this need. Who will come to her rescue. The Bible contains more than 300 verses on the poor, social justice, and God's deep concern for them. Matt 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. . . Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
