Connecting Caring
Persons With Needy Neighbors.
We
believe donors to this ministry are among the most merciful and generous.
However,
not all American Christians are.
"How
generous are American Christians? By
comparison with biblical standards, not very.
The
IRS reports that those who itemize deductions on their income tax returns
have claimed, since 1975, that between 1.6 percent and 2.16 percent of
their income went to charitable concerns. Gallup polls taken every two
years for the organization Independent Sector have found charitable
donations to run between 1.5 percent and 2 percent of income. Giving
USA, an authoritative report published by American Association of
Fund-Raising Counsel (AAFRC), says that giving has ranged between 1.7
percent and 1.95 percent of personal income over the last 20 years."

Case

She needs our prayer and our
financial assistance.
A 78-year old widow
Her vision is impaired. Her income is meager. A son who had been in
Griffin Hospital in Norman, lives with her. He is unable to work.
As I got to know her she mentioned the homeless people have been camping
in a vacant house nearby. This got us to talking about
"hobos" from the 30's. That's what we called the men who "rode the rails"
then got off to canvass nearby houses for food.
Her mother said, "Never turn away a stranger." As a young girl she
lived near the tracks back in the 30's.
When asked about prayer she quickly answered "all the time".
Years ago she worked two jobs in LA. She came back to Oklahoma to care for mother
1966 then eventually bought a house here.
Her husband died 14 years ago.
