Authentic
Evangelism
Paul
of Tarsus laid the foundation, upon which Christianity through the ages
has built. During his
lifetime deviations occurred. In later centuries the church has
wandered from his pure presentation of the gospel; yet for those who
desire to know the salient aspects of the foundations he built, it is
there in the New Testament. An example:

“It
doesn't matter how much you have. What
matters
is how much you are willing to
give from
what
you have. . ." |
Paul’s
style of evangelism gave no doubt to new comers that in accepting the
gospel, they too would love others as Christ did.
They too would be blessers, not just a people who sought blessings.
Two
chapters of his second letter to the Christians in Corinth are about
loving the poor.
He described the fervor of the people in Macedonia this way:
“Although they were going through hard times and were very poor, they were glad to
give generously. They gave as much as they could afford and even more,
simply because they wanted to. They even asked and begged us to let them have
the joy of giving their money for God's people.
And they did more than we had hoped. They gave themselves first to the Lord and then
to us, [for
the poor]
just as
God wanted them to do.” Then
he complimented the
Corinthians and challenged them: “You do everything better than anyone else. You
have stronger faith. You speak better and know more. You are eager to give, and you
love
us better.
Now you must give
[to
the poor]
more generously than anyone else. I am
not ordering
you to do this. I am simply testing how real your love is by comparing it with the
concern that others have shown.”
Even though Paul suffered personal financial hardship, his concern was
for others.
