The Abundant Life

For
the Christian our greatest mental anguish comes when essential priorities
are misaligned. We are destined to serve others under God's able
leadership and provision. God has prepared the works that he wants
us to do, long before we were born. That is a New Testament teaching.
God should be first in our lives; others, ideally should be next and ourselves last. Even when this is not our reality, we can pray and expect God to shift us in this direction. Putting God first and our neighbor second is a process that needs constant attention. In my own life, I battle with this all the time. That old tenacious self consistently nags at me to be at the top of the list. In faith, I can expect the Spirit of God to intercede. That is my hope. I know that by sheer will power I will too often loose the battle. But with God on my side and as I acknowledge that He is ‘in me’, I can win. Those who deserve our compassion and our prayers are the persons who don't even intend to wage the battle. The ultimate conclusion of their pursuit to fulfill self is a terrible thing to behold. When priorities are set right, our lives become full, our witness is believable, and at the end of our days we can expect to find great treasure in our eternal home. And we will have enjoyed the abundant life which our Master promised. In His
