Impressed By What?

Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all
you do. Remember that the Lord is coming soon.
(TLB) Phil 4:5

THEN YOU WILL BE SEEN AS ONE OF GOD'S PEOPLE.

GIVING OUT OF THEIR POVERTY TO HELP THE POOR

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-- his good, pleasing and perfect will.
(NIV) Rom 12:2

Perhaps it has always been this way.  The seen overpowers the unseen.  The noise of this earth fills our ears, so that the small voice from within is not heard.

The irony in this is that we may complain that God is not as accessible as we want. In the extreme, we may silently make a decision that prayer really does no good.

Years ago, God forewarned me at a most unsuspecting time.  I was in the back seat of a car that traveled east across the elevated four lane highway that passes just two blocks south of the downtown Oklahoma City skyline.

I drifted away from the conversation of the two in the front seat, and my head turned toward the architectural beauty of the buildings clearly visible out of the north car window.   Then I heard, “Be careful what impresses you.”

It was a voice in my head, but not from my own thoughts.  My mind had been blank.  I took the event as God intervening.   So in the coming hours and days, I sought clarification in prayer.

In our time there is so much to distract us from the things of God.   As His servant, this divine intervention indelibly impressed me to lean on God at all times -- TO DESIRE TO BE IMPRESSED WITH THE THINGS THAT ARE IMPRESSIVE TO HIM.

Only in that stance would I know what to give my attention to.  It's a daily thing: getting quite before God to determine what is eternally important.
