A relative reported:
We saw Emily two week ago. We were so
pleased to see so much improvement in the past few months. She has much
more mobility and flexibility. She is still on pain medication as well
as several other medications and supplements for her condition and is
continuing her physical therapy. She can now do normal things like
shower herself, comb her hair, pick up her little girl Emma, touch the
floor, drive a car, some cooking -- all those things impossible less
than a year ago. She continues to have someone come to help her with
Emma, house cleaning, laundry and some food preparation for five hours
weekdays but manages herself the rest of the time. She just had some
surgery on her foot yesterday to make it more comfortable to wear
shoes. About four months ago she had surgery on her jaw to correct the
misalignment that resulted from a fall on her face while in the hospital
last summer. She has had some scar tissue form pulling on her bottom
lip and will have some additional surgery next week to work on that.
She is brave and determined, an inspiration to all of us that know her.
She has been in touch with others who have had a stem cell transplant
for Scleroderma and not all have had success. Her doctor is very
pleased with her progress. She attributes it to her

Emily,
now 34, had her Stem Cell Transplant in May 2004 and was released from
the hospital in July. Her condition is improving, though very
slowly. Her cardiologist says her heart is healthy. Her
appetite is back, her energy level has increased, and her range of
motion has improved.
Her kidneys were affected by the
Scleroderma and she is currently having dialysis treatments three times
a week. The doctors tell her it is possible her kidneys can heal
and she prays they will. She still suffers from much pain, but in
order to increase her limited range of motion, she has physical and
occupational therapy sessions twice a week.
Her insurance company reportedly
continued to deny payment for the transplant, but she is now working
with an attorney to appeal their decision.
Emily's two-year-old daughter continues to
brighten her life. Emily is very grateful to God for the family
members, friends and strangers who support her and pray for her.

The
original report -
==Emily is a beautiful 33 year old women who first began noticing strange
symptoms including tightness in the hands in 1999. She was
diagnosed with a rare disease called
Scleroderma
in
early 2000. This disease is a life threatening disorder
characterized by hardening or thickening of the skin due to abnormal
tissue growth.
Since that time Emily has been in tremendous pain and has lost
a considerable amount of weight. She has lost a large amount of
mobility. Emily has not worked since late 2002. In September of
2002 she gave birth to a beautiful girl named Emma who is a true miracle
from God.
After
being in Chicago undergoing an experimental Stem Cell Transplant she is now back
home in Texas.
Emily receives a small disability check monthly. She is a member of
a Lutheran Church in a suburb of Dallas. Please pray for
Emily.
