Are Church Buildings
More Important Than People?

In His Name Ministries is just scratching the surface. If only there were A LITTLE AID TO THE POOR FROM EVERY CHURCH If each of Oklahoma City's churches set aside just $150 per month for their outreach to poor neighbors the total aid city-wide would exceed $1,500,000 annually. But many churches, could do much more without hurting their other programs.
<>> Our Relationship With Others -- Christ Has Enabled Us To Love Them As He Loves Us. In
the early days of the New Testament church, people of means sold lands
and houses and gave the money to leaders to disperse to the poor.

We may not always have funds, but we want to encourage each person in some way. They are persons not aided by other sources - the elderly poor, accident victims, the disabled, or abandoned wives. We talk to as many at 2,500 people each year. We have just added an associate, so this number will increase. Our limited funding sets a cap on how many we minister to. However, our city has a vast untapped source that could greatly magnify the available aid - the hundreds of church organizations. Most churches are friendly with their neighbors. Some will give groceries, a few have a broader scoped compassionate outreach ministry in place. Many others, however, defer help, or turn away from their suffering neighbors. We know, because those who were turned down often tell us so. Several times over the years, when we have talked with church leaders, the building fund is one reason there is no money to help. Recently one church who previously budgeted money for the poor removed that item from the budget when they started building a large suburban church facility. One used God's money on a luxuriously appointed new facility that includes a water falls within.
