| During rough times these three
needed outside help. Yet Lucie, Dave and Elizabeth Looked For Ways They
Could Serve Others.
Lucie was a registered nurse who suffered a disability.
Then for many months,
she had no income. IHNM and others helped her. She eventually received
a disability check and low cost housing. These two benefits totaled only
about 17% of her former income.
David had been a successful salesman until a heart condition limited
his activity. His wife had to take a job and he was able to hold down a
25 hour per week part time job. Both Lucie and David began to help other
people.
Now Lucie is a regular "caller" for IHNM. She faithfully prays for specific
cases. She even makes donations from her limited budget to help others
as did David. Recently she went to the home of a terminally ill cancer
patient. Later she arranged for transportation to the doctor.
David had computer skills which he shared with IHNM. He helped set up
IHNM's office computer. Three weeks prior to his death, he replaced a power
supply for us (at his expense). Also he personally visited clients, often
becoming deeply involved in their lives, until his death in November, 1994.
Elizabeth Martin cares for her husband who is a double amputee. A stroke
has left him paralyzed on one side. Their total monthly income is less
than $600, yet every Thanksgiving season she makes up baskets of food for
a dozen poor people. To do this she must save up grocery money for many
weeks. She also gets help from others who get to share the joy of giving
with her.
Not just at Thanksgiving, but throughout the year she watches for a
chance to share something. In His Name Ministries occasionally calls her
to “be a friend” to someone in her neighborhood. She will find a way. God
is the center of Elizabeth's life. She trusts Him and she says. “God always
takes care of our own needs.”
These three love the Lord. Their love is reflected in their compassion
and grace which under girded their personal ministries. - Dee Stribling
