God's Spirit
During prayer time I believe God had nudged me
not to help the widow this time, even though we had the $100 needed to
keep the electricity from being cut off for this family of seven.
Mary Ann continued to call several times and
again the Spirit was saying, "not this time Margaret." On about the
fifth call I started quoting scriptures to myself. James 2:15-16,
If your brother is in need, and I don't help...bad news for me. Luke
6:30, Give whatever they ask. By 4:45 PM I decided to call
the electric company saying that we were sending $100 in payment of Mary
Ann's bill.
She had no phone of her own, and we did not go
by her place to tell her. The next morning she called to say she
had good news. An individual (not us) had paid the $100 for her.
God had answered her prayer (without us). She was joyous!
God knew Mary Ann's need was taken care of and
He let me know that I was not to help this time. I didn't trust that
inner voice, but moved back under the law instead.
It was a valuable learning experience for me and
I am trusting the living Spirit of God more and more. I pray that
you are too.
The Master told his disciples He would not leave
them as orphans but would send the Comforter, whom He later described as
a teacher and counselor. It is crucial that Christians encourage
and remind one another to be part of the work of the Holy Spirit… that
personal indwelling Spirit….God's wonderful gift to His children.
He
has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant-- not of the letter
but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. (NIV)
