Our
telephone report to utility offices gets quick results.
At times we are working cooperatively with
another church, an agency or human services office. We may pay only a
portion of what is needed.
By reporting this to the utility office, they
note their customer's record. Then when another agency inquires
about the amount still needed our "payment" is reflected in
the unpaid balance due.
So if the total unpaid amount is $150 and In His Name
has promised $60.00, an other agency can know that $90.00 is still
needed. Recently a Human Services
case worker called In His Name to tell us that her office would
pay $100.00 of her client's bill. She already had informed the
utility office. Then our worker telephoned the utility about our
additional payment of $54.00. The clerk said an order would immediately be issue
to restore their customer's service. |
How
Utility Offices Cooperate
With
In His Name Ministries.
When
we decide to pay part or all of a utility or rental payment, we call the
appropriate utility or rental office to report our intention. That
office notes our intention to pay on the customer's account.
Time may
be of the essence. An example is if on a cold day the utility
customer has lost service and has no way to heat her home. Or the
utility office may be preparing to stop service because she cannot pay all of the amount owed.
|
A "disconnect order," can be
stopped, even before our check arrives in the utility office when we have
promised payment. So send us an E-mail if you are helping.
|
Likewise
if a person's utility has been turned off, our promise to pay is
accepted in the same manner. Recently when we were collecting
money to help a disabled person whose utilities were turned off, the
Water Department clerk said, "we will have the service restored
within four hours." Other utilities are not that
specific, but in many cases they can restore service the same day.
If
you see a web story and determine to send us a check, we
hope you will inform us by email. With your promise to send a check, we
can in turn promise to pay the utility office, or rental
agency. There have been instances of action being taken the
same day that a story has been put up on the web.
WE ARE GRATEFUL TO GOD FOR THE WEB\EMAIL TECHNOLOGY.
